LIYUAN Garden
National AAAA tourist attraction
As one of the key tourist attractions within the National Tourist Attraction of “Taihu Lake”, Liyuan Garden is located at the shores of Lihu Lake, which is a jewel nestled within the revered expanse of Taihu Lake. The garden originally consisted of two adjacent private villa gardens: the Liyuan Garden, built between 1927 and 1937, and the Fisherman’s Villa, built from 1930 to 1937.In 1952, a gallery known as the “Hundred-step Corridor”was added, merging the two realms into a single public garden now known as Liyuan Garden.
Renowned among the classical gardens of southern China for its distinctive waterscape, the Li Garden commands breathtaking views of rolling green hills in the distance and offers the soothing sound of lapping waves nearby. With its clear waters, lush hills, and exquisitely designed courtyards and ponds, the garden is infused with the legendary romance of Fan Li and Xi Shi, who are said to have boated on these waters over 2,500 years ago. It is here, where a legend unfolded over twenty-five centuries ago, that FanLi(536-448 B.C,) and Xi Shi(503-473 B.C.) embarked on an enduring odyssey across these very waters, a narrative that echoing through the tapestry of time.
